- Launch Permit –Check! Launch permit holders can launch from any Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission access area, State Park or State Forest.
- Life Jacket – Each person in a canoe, kayak, rowboat or stand-up paddleboard must have a wearable, USCG-approved life jacket. And children 12 years of age and younger must wear a life jacket when on the water. All paddlers must wear a life jacket from November 1 through April 30.
- Whistle to alert other boaters of their presence.
- Light for paddling after sunset, before sunrise or during low visibility.

Pennsylvania fishing licenses are all the same and get you access to the water to fish across the state. The difference is how long your license will be valid.
Permits are needed when fishing for trout or on Lake Erie and it’s tributaries.

Funds from fishing license sales help the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission protect and improve water quality and protect and manage reptiles, amphibians and other aquatic life. The agency works to ensure aquatic resources remain protected and water quality supports aquatic life; tracks endangered, threatened and rare animals under the PFBC’s jurisdiction; and manages species restoration efforts and habitat protections and improvement.
