So you have your license, gear and the perfect spot. Time to get that line in the water.
Friendly Waters
While the best water to fish is the one you can get to, lakes and ponds are usually best for new anglers. Target weed beds, rocks and deep water to find fish.
Add Your Hook
Fishing hooks enable us to catch fish and need to be sharp to be effective. Practice safe hook handling, and use an improved clinch knot to tie your fishing line to your hook.
Bait Your Hook
Get fish to bite with live bait. Earthworms, mealworms and insects are irresistible to fish. Baiting your hook is easy.
Rig Your Line
Terminal tackle is the equipment used at the end of your line, like hooks, bobbers and sinkers. Attach sinkers to your line 6-10 inches above the hook, and attach a bobber to your line about 12 inches above the sinkers.
Cast Your Line
Acquire your target, bring the rod back over your shoulder, bring it forward and release the line when the rod tip is pointed at your target.
Reel in Your Catch
Safely reel in your catch, scoop it up with a net, take a pic and release it back in the water!
