A Rail Trail, a Fishing Stream and a Paddle Trail

For the angler or paddler looking for a little more on their adventure in Northcentral PA, try out Pine Creek and its award-winning 62-mile Pine Creek Rail Trail.  The former railroad path runs between Wellsboro, Tioga County, and Jersey Shore, Lycoming County. It is an access for fishing in Pine Creek for most of its route.

Fishing Pine Creek Rail Trail

Walk, jog or hop on a bike to find a great fishing spot. You’ll also want to look for wildlife along the way. You will pass a few primitive campgrounds, bathrooms and picnic areas along the trail.

Catch bass, occasional Walleyes, trophy-sized Fallfish and trout. Find fishing maps for Pine Creek and the area.

The trailheads provide parking access for the angler to hike or walk along the stream. A fishing adventure could include spotting wildlife like eagles, osprey, coyotes, and bears.

Paddle the Trail

Also, you can enjoy paddling adventures on Pine Creek. Paddlers can find near Class II rapids in sections of Pine Creek in spring.

A popular launch point for a kayaking adventure is Ansonia. From there, you have options for the length of your float starting from fewer than 2 miles with almost 40 more miles of water trail to paddle. Check the map to plan your trek.

Bring your own kayak or find a local outfitter. Some provide shuttle services as well as kayak rentals and gear.

Take note that some trailheads have limited parking for paddle access.

As with any water adventure, safety is priority. Always wear a life jacket and be prepared.

More Fun

In winter, the rail trail is groomed for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

Wellsboro, near the northern trailhead, will take you back in time with its gaslight Main Street. Browse the shops and enjoy the arts community during your visit.
